Scanning a room or could you see the use of it to scan a part to be able to drop into an assembly?
They are not there yet but to scan a part and pull measurements off the screen to catch any dim you want sounds really great.
Contact them to see if they will make it possible to scan a part and be able to drop it into a part or assembly with little clean up.
Imagine no more searching for models on line if you have a part there and get some accurate geometry, no more measuring parts and building parts from charts....or having to contact vendors and ask for a part...to drop into your assembly to insure that everything will fit right. Scan it and drop it in.......when will we have products like this to be able to use with our 3d cad?
They make scanners like this for parts. We have one here. Granted, the one we have isn't hand held like the one in the link, but it is easy to use.
However, the difference between scanners is the density of the point cloud that it can create (among other things, I am sure).
My assumption is that, if you are using one to scan an entire room, your point cloud density doesn't have the be very dense. However, for parts (like the ones we need to scan once in a while) our point cloud needs to be very dense. This is where the cost comes into play.
