Cannot install 2016 - "The user needs the SQL permission 'CREATE ANY DATABASE'."

When I click "Install Now", I get the following errors:

"The user needs the SQL permission 'CREATE ANY DATABASE'."

I click OK...

"The user needs the SQL permission 'ALTER ANY LOGIN'."

I saw this same question posted here

Unable to install V2016 - user needs sql permission 'CREATE ANY DATABASE'. Help!

with 800+ views and no responses, which is highly disconcerting. I tried installing sqlmanagementstudio_x64_enu from the install folder but it didn't change anything. What should I do?

Newly upgraded PC to Windows 10 LTSB 2016 x64

You might want to try move the post to the Electrical forums as it is a problem with installing SOLIDWORKS Electrical. Can you please take a screenshot of the Electrical options you are using to install? Are you trying to create a new SQL instance or modify an existing one?

In the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager, change the Electrical Options for SQL Server Login from Windows Authentication to SQL Server Authentication and set the username as sa and enter the password for that SQL sa account. Follow the prompts from there (so that the SWX IM finishes/modifies your install)

Please test again and let us know if that helps.

Do you already have a server set up with your Solidworks Electrical SQL and Data? If so you don't need to install the colaborative server or data on the user's machine, you just need to point to the server in the electrical option during the install. If you are trying to set up the collaborative server then I believe Phillip has the answer you're looking for.

Firstly; you need to open your computer as 'Administrator' .

If you have never used this user account before, please use this way.

After that step; try to install SWE again.

If you get the same error messages, try to create new database ( change that; USER_NAME/TEW_SQLEXPRESS to USER_NAME/SQLEXPRESS ).

After installation, if you want to reach old SW Electrical database, you can change it from "Application Settings > Server name : USER_NAME/TEW_SQLEXPRESS"
