I had trouble creating a new tool. The software limited me to a specific flute length / length of cut (L2).
The cutter I want to use has a length of cut of 2.250".
The shoulder length and flute length are tied together when you add more flute you need to add more to the shoulder as well. Please try increasing the shoulder length number to a higher value and see if the flute length increases. Please let us know the outcome after testing this change.
I had thought of that and did try changing the other parameters to allow a greater flute length. The 1.875 value seemed to be the limit on that parameter.
Can you go to your mill holder tab and make the protrusion length larger. (see below) I opened up the same tool that you are using the TechDB and it appears the protrusion length is shorter than 2.25. That is keeping you from clamping the flutes into the holder. Please let me know if this adjustment works.
Thanks. That is the dimension that was limiting it. That parameter may need better clarification. It is not shown on my diagram until I choose "Holder Type: User Defined". Also on this tab, is there a database of common tool holders, i.e. ER32, etc.?
Thank you for the feedback. I agree and will request that we put a notification to help clarify these settings in future releases. SW CAM has some basic tool holders but it currently doesn't encompass all types. You also have the ability to create custom tool holders through the database or by drawing solid models in SW. The define tools/holder button would allow you model the holder to tool and import it. Below are some screen shots of the database settings. Please note we are in the process of migrating the access data base to SQL and the interface will change throughout the beta process.
