How to split design table in drawing as same as like for BOM we can able to split where ever we want and we can add where ever we want in drawing.
Please let me know if anybody knows..
Thanks & Regards,
Naveen Kumar Gongu.
Bring it into the drawing twice, then hide the repeated rows.
hello Steven Mills ,
It won't be workout, when we rebuild drawings both table will look same.. anyway thanks for reply
I think that is the reason why you couldn't do it. Since you can only select one range of the Excel file to show in SolidWorks, you can show only that section.
I might know a trick around this though. I'm assuming you want to split it because the table is too long? It isn't identical to splitting BOMs, but it's a start. You can hide rows and columns in the design table and they also won't show up when you add them to drawings. SolidWorks also stops reading the top row with variable names when it contains an empty cell. You could therefore add an empty column, hide it and format it as you like. You can then let Excel copy all the data from the bottom rows (out of the view range) to a second set of columns. When you adjust the visible range you can then show two sets of data next to each other.
Rebuilding un-hides rows that were set to be hidden?
Let me try to explain better; you have three tables that are the same and all are 100 rows, and all are made from the same design table but brought into the drawing as three separate items. In the first table you hide rows 40-100, the second table you hide 1-40 and 80-100. In the third table you hide rows 1-80. Comprende?
Hello Steven Mills,
Thanks for reply.
can you pls explain me with a example. I tried with whatever you mentioned above but while rebuilding all the 3 table will be getting same.
The source of the tables can be the same, yes. But you should be able to hide/delete rows on one table but not hide/delete the same rows on another table.
thanks for your patients.
please split design table in given file to I understand better (I'm using SW-2015).
Can you upload the file to the forum instead of a link to google drive please?
here are the file. please check.
Quick tip when sharing drawings of SolidWorks files themselves. Do a pack and go from the drawing level so you not only get all the files associated from the drawing, but preserve links between the files as they are copied. Since you uploaded both the drawing file and one part file in separate zips I will have to manually re-connect them.
Ok, first your using an older version of SW than I am, so I can't really send the file itself back to you unless you update to 2016. Or I install what version you are using.
Second the design table of the part got corrupted in transfer (again use the Pack and Go tool).
Third, this might be a case where it is better to break the link and just copy the design table in pieces into SolidWorks. In this case, just take the design table from the part, copy it into an Excel/Spreadsheet. Then just copy sections into a SolidWorks drawing. And do this each time the part changes.
Fourth, keep the link to the design table, but when the design table gets too large just change the font and cell size so it is smaller. Or use a D or even E size drawing in that is taller than it is wide. You can fit a big table on that.
Thanks & I appreciate your patience.
I'm attaching pack & go file. please do it in the version you have and kindly share the captured video using solid works and also let me know if that option is available in SW-2015.
for 3rd scenario, the reason why I'm using design table in drawing is to avoid repeated work, we will edit design table in part/assy level which automatically should update in drawing. so if we break the link that will not work.
for 4th scenario as we have only 2 views to represent in the drawing we can't go for big sheet as you mentioned like D or E. that is not acceptable at our plant.
kindly share me the the video as I have to inform my team whether we have to go with design table or not or if we have option in latest version we need to update the version.
Please let me know.
......You know people usually charge to make training videos, right? Nor do I really have the tools installed on my computer to record the monitors as I flip through multiple programs, nor the editing software to record my voice and do a voice over for said video. Best I can do is get you on the phone, and share my screen through 'Join.me' as I go through it. Also I already have a side project I'm obliged to do for the next few weeks. I'm sorry, I can't help you in that way.
Just look at what I said earlier and try to do it yourself. A lot of people learn by doing (and yes, often failing) rather than having every single tap and mouse-click told to them.
Thank you very much for your reply, we are now following legacy format only.
I'm pretty sure this isn't supported as splitting is only support with the following result.
With the "other part" of the BOM attached to the "main" BOM.
Naveen is not actually splitting a BOM. They are trying to show a design table driven part with many configurations, which updates as the part/parts is revised.
