I need to display file name and file size in drawing notes. I know how to link a note to filename, but I don't see anyway to link to file size. Is there a way to do this?
I'm curious why you would want that?
In you example the file is an assembly.
Do you just want the size as stored of the assembly file? The drawing file?
Do you want to know the size of each and every part contained within the assembly?
Yes, but it involves either a macro feature or VBA code in equations, which SolidWorks has tried to make more and more difficult to do with every release. I'm not sure yet if it's completely hosed in 2017 or not. How bad do you want it?
it'd be simple using VBA function call FileLen
see att. code
I recommend you run a macro and add this value to CusProp which will be updated to your note
Also don't forget this little fact. The file size of solidworks files change oddly, for no easy reason to see. Many times I've opened a new part, added a sketch, then saved. And by doing just that the file size became 30% smaller, or 40% larger. Or just re-save it and it gets smaller for no reason I can tell.
Personally, I wait until the end of a project, then just use windows explorer to get the data size then.
I guess they run this before releasing the dwg
Rick, I do government drawings and that's one of the requirements. They feel it's another way to check that they have the correct files that match drawings. I just do what I'm told.
