How do I automatically name a new file in solidworks part with EPDM serial number.
I tried in using tools < solidworks PDM < opitions and it is not highlighted. How can I edit it
Did you set up a serial number scheme already? Just wondering if that's why it's grayed out.
or you can:
Set up a template to create a new part. Have the template variable pull from your serial number list. Under the "files and folders" step, set the file name to %t_serialnumber% (where t_serialnumber is the template variable.
Thanks for your reply.
I have already set the serial number. Is there any other way than creating a template ?
Thanks in advance
I've always used a template, so I'm not exactly sure.
Just checked ours and we're getting the option to select a specific serial number.
Do you have multiple vaults because the serial number will be specific to a vault? Other than that I can't think of anything.
Yes I do have multiple vaults. Am able to do it only for one vault.
If you have a serial number setup then you should be able to use the tools drop down in PDM explorer as per attached screenshots.
Copy tree will create a new copy but move tree and keep the destination the same will rename the file.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for your reply!
I want to auto save the part when I create a new part. Right now am using the process as you mentioned for similar parts but little modification.
Just set up the template. You can set it to check in automatically.
Hi Sandeep, if you have already setup a serial number, then the only other reason that option is grayed out, is that you need to be logged into PDM on the client computer as Admin.
Once you do that, then the option will become available.
This was the answer for me. I logged in as admin and it now lets me select from the drop down.
