When I open my assembly, I got this feature recognition message. What do I need to do with it? Is that a way to turn off this message? Thanks
You got this message when you try to ope a non-SW file. If yes, then SW will "TRY" to recognize how to build the model for you.
with "NO" option, SW will open it as dummy model
Don't ask me again. NO
Unless, of course, you want to recognize the features of your imported parts..
Turn off the FeatureWorks addin under Tools --> Addins.
My FeatureWorks was not checked when I open that part file. It seems to me after downloading the STEP file, I have to use run Import Diagnostics otherwise error/problem show up later when I modify the part and use it in the assembly. Thanks
But I have often had an imported model where I do run Feature Works and save it as SW part, only to have it ask me if I want to run Feature Works again the next time I open the model.
Cross your fingers while using this feature ! most of the time, it's failed miserably !!!
No surprise you're asked again and again until you're tired of it and say "No, thank you"
The failure rate clearly depends on the from file type.
SW is best friends with parasolid files.
SW does not love Step files.
SW does not like IGES files.
The biggest failure I encounter when running is interference of features. I accept it and identify which features were problematic. If it inhibits my use, I will start again without feature recog. - this if I can't recreate the features myself.
I am really interested in trying out the new 3D interconnect though.
The bad thing is 90% of the time, people send you the step/iges files
how often you receive parasolid files?
We have to request them to get them.
A lot of major companies don't even know of parasolid. [shrugging]
I think they DO but are afraid of leaking the design
Thank you for the information. This part file was imported but was customized in the assembly. I just have to turn off that message. Thank you
My suggestion is of two simple points:
I wouldn't select the "Don't ask me again."
Scott, you can always run the feature recognition when ever you want. Most people don't need this because most of us don't need to change or update the vast majority of non-SW native files we might use on a daily basis.
"Most people" and "most of us" - assumes a lot.
What I have found is that files that non feature recognized files like STP or IGES used in assemblies adds processing and load time, sometimes a ridiculous amount of it.
You are correct that it can be run at any time.
Interesting, do you have time studies that might show this? There's a LG Assembly On-Line webinar tomorrow, maybe I can ask that question...
I haven't any documented time studies.
Chika.. (as Roland Schwarz has noted for your add-ins) ..just turn it off and decide later if/when you want to run FeatureWorks (RMB on the body/feature and pop-up menu will show FeatureWorks).
Personally, it works well only on clean solid analytical geometry.. so, if it's really simple.. it maybe worth using if you want to change something but.. personally.. I remodel most imported data.. so I have my own intent/control....otherwise.. it's random features and you get what you get..
Thank you for the input. I might have question for you for the remodel imported data.
