Cables in Line diagram in Solidworks Electrical

Hello all,

I am working on line diagram on Solidwork Electrical.

I have completed symbol insertion. Now I am drawing cables and facing two problems as below-

1) I am getting this mark near cursor while drawing the cable. What does this mean? ( Refer image "cable")

2) For some cables, I am getting correct junction point ( pink dot) at the junction. But for some cables at junction points I am not getting the pink dot. Eg- In the image , above component Q21 junction point is not getting created. What should be the reason? ( Please refer image "cable 2")

Correct Answer

Yes, simply because it was not designed to show connections that way. The cables will only attach to symbols, not other cable lines. So that junction dot is really an unconnected cable, laying on top of another cable line so that it doesn't look like it. Are you trying to draw a harness? Like it is one connector at one end with two connectors at the other? That would look like my screenshot below.

Something that it appears you aren't aware of, is that you cannot connect the cable lines to other cable lines, the way you can connect wires in a schematic. Cable lines in the line diagram can only attach to component symbols. The reason is that they are representing any number of wires. It is a more abstract view of connections.

The question that needs to be asked is why you are even getting a connection point at all at the junction.

Ohh..if that is the case..then I might have done a mistake!

I was drawing Single Line Diagram as per customer requirement.

Let me tell you what I have done..I drew 3 separate cables to form the "T" shape junction. In the process, when I drew first 2 cables, there was no juction point. But when I drew 3rd cable from the common point then the point turned into junction point.

Is there any mistake in this process?

Brian is right on the mark with his response, what I want to add is that you can 'lay' the cables on top of each other by dragging them together to get the final result as in your initial images.

I'm new in solidwork electrical and I find draw IEC one line diagrama.

somebody know why solidworks electrical don't have IEC one line diagram.
