Check out #TASK here:
You can download and use it for free. There's a task in there called "Shop Drawings". You can use this to create views of all bodies in your multi body part.
Although I think it creates the views specifically with reference to front/right planes etc, it might save you a reasonable amount of time.
Your frustration is very similar to my own. Making drawings is still very cumbersome and I couldn't find the right solution to speed it up. That's why I started my own company and started building the tool that I need. It's taking shape now and creating drawings from scratch is already very fast.
I'm going to tackle weldments next and add it as a module to the tool. Would you be interested in working with me to make sure it becomes awesome? You can send me a message if you're interested. Other people are welcome to do the same
It's not automatic, but there is an easier way to insert drawing views of individual bodies than adding Relative Views. The "Select Bodies" button can be your friend. See #15 at Frequently Asked Forum Questions for a screenshot and more information.
Hi Peter, not sure if you still have this problem but our weldments sound similar to yours. We started using the Autostruct - Product Details | SOLIDWORKS add-in a couple of years ago and it's been great. Does everything you've described above and will add details of that body from the cutlist to the sheet.
I was able to trial it before we bought it, not sure if they still offer that as an option.
there is macro for that, that insert all the bodies views in the drawing. I got it from this forum or other website - can't remember. It definitelly works with SW2016 (that's what we are on at the moment - waiting for 2018 upgrade).
