could anybody tell me whether it is possible to insert cylindrical reference frames in part document? Is it possible to insert a curved surface and sketch on it? I know we can make a cylindrical part and project a sketch on its surface. But instead of projecting on a curved surface which will not be true length but curved length, how can we draw true sketches with exact dimensions...
Hey John,
Use wrap function to project the Sketch on to the curved surface. Arcs length will be same as the lines that were projected.
In below snapshot I used 'scribe' option. If you check the arc length it'll be same as the projected line's length.
This works only for sketches with one or more closed contour only.

The only way I can think of that allows you to sketch directly on a curved surface is "Spline on surface". You can then dimension the length of the spline and use - a lot of - construction lines to handle relations. It is not the most easy nor stable approach - I know that.
If your surface is cylindrical I would go for wrap as Sachin Malenahalli Murigesh suggest.
You can add relations in a 3d sketch to place the sketch entities on a curved surface.
I didn't get what you exactly want to do, but you can use 3D sketch if you don't want to wrap a sketch or if you need circles at different angles you can add planes at angles you need and then draw a simple 2D circle on them
