Bjorn Hulman Mar 22, 2017 7:37 AM (in response to Marc Erasmus)Hi Marc,
you tried the freeze bar? http://help.solidworks.com/2015/english/SolidWorks/sldworks/c_Feature_Freeze.htm

Re: disable rebuild on part
Marc Erasmus Mar 22, 2017 8:44 AM (in response to Bjorn Hulman)hi bjorn, yep i know about the freeze bar but cant use freeze bar in this application as the surfaces are all named "imported [numeral]" so i cant tell what is what in the feature tree and it would take too long to "reorder the parts".

Don Hill Oct 11, 2018 12:09 PM (in response to Marc Erasmus)Bringing this question back to the top as it was never answered. (I see similar questions dating back 8 years with no answers)
Freeze bar is great when your 100% finished editing the part. But is close to worthless while still in the design phase.
There is an option to suspend rebuilds in an assembly. Is there, or why is there not, an option to suspend auto rebuilding in a part?
Why are we given an option to "hit ESC to abort rebuild" and all it does is close program?
Sorry for my blunt discourse. I currently spend 1/3-1/2 my day simply watching my part rebuild over and over and over and over.... (I have a lot of sweeps). I've used SW for 12 years now and have spent 6 years of that watching it rebuild.

Re: disable rebuild on part
Rob Edwards Oct 11, 2018 12:18 PM (in response to Don Hill)Hi Don
Maybe I'm just mistaken here, but what happens if you combine the freeze bar and the rollback bar... wouldn't that limit any rebuild to what is after the freeze bar and before the rollback?

Re: disable rebuild on part
Don Hill Oct 11, 2018 1:10 PM (in response to Rob Edwards)Correct Rob. That is how I'm working now. Problem is every time you touch the rollback bar it rebuilds. So if I do not do things just right, I get stuck for 10-15 minutes looking at a spinning circle. So it would be nice to just turn the rebuild option off completely.
Since I'm dealing with about a dozen sweep features, plus cuts and radii, I turn off 'merge results' on everything. Then at the very end I combine and add in all the radii. This combine and the radii on sweep features accounts for 80% of the rebuild time. So a work around while working on the part for sure. But then updating prints is another headache. Because after rebuilding, saving and closing the part, then the prints needs to update and rebuild the part that was just rebuilt. Too much fun....

Somebody, pinch me! Artem, you just solve a huge problem for many users. Each company should send you a $1000 cheque every month from now on.
How come SOLIDWORKS hasn’t send you a huge contract by now, I cannot fathom. You are changing our lives!
