Thanks for the post. The step by step instructions helped me see what I was missing in the order of face and menu selections.
A follow up question: how does one assign a datum to the axis or midplane of these features? And is there a way to select a midplane as a datum for the auto-dimension tool?
If you use GD&T, the recommendation is to define datums with tangible datum features. E.g. a hole as a datum feature will give you the centerline as a datum automatically, or a width as a datum feature will give you the center plane as a datum.
The reason is that tangible features can be held unambiguously. Theoretical center lines or planes are up to interpretation, so can result in disagreements and expensive cost. This video explains it well: Features Have Axes: GD&T Tip from Tec-Ease - Features Have Axes - YouTube
