Does anyone know why SOLIDWORKS will not allow the denominator to be set to 1 for fractional dimensions?
It doesn't make a lot of sense that you would have to switch your dimensions to decimals in order to round to a whole number.
This has been added as an enhancement request (SPR-1039555).
If you had a fraction that was 1/1 what would it be rounding? It's already a whole number. You can however round 1/2 or any other 1/x (denominator) value.
The point would be to round to the nearest whole number not to the nearest 1/2 inch.
For example 1 1/2" would round to 2" or 1 1/4" would round to 1" etc.
The denominator controls the smallest fraction displayed. I want to be able to keep my drawing in fractions (instead of decimals) and still select specific dimensions that round to a whole number.
Derek, I think it's just a "late on a Friday" issue ...
With the fraction 7/16 ... 7 is the numerator and 16 is the denominator. No matter how many times you try you will never be able to round 1/1 ... 2/1 ... 3/1 or any other similarly afflicted fraction as they are already a "whole" number.
I'm not trying to round a number that is already a whole number. The problem is how SOLIDWORKS converts and rounds a non-fractional decimal.
For example, if the dimension below is 2.47 inches. If I switch to fractions, I can round this to the nearest half inch (which will be 2 1/2 inches) but I cannot round this to the nearest whole number (which would be 2 inches).
I don't know why they won't allow it. You could submit an Enhancement Request if you want. In the meantime, you could change it to Decimal, with the Unit Precision set to "None", and add the " in the text box. Save it as a Style and you won't have to repeat the process, just change other dimensions to the same saved Style (or have the Style active when placing the dimensions).
Thanks Glenn, that's a great idea! I hadn't thought of saving a style.

You probably already thought of this, but if this is something you'll need frequently you might want to save the Style in your document template.
Just a heads up, I'm using 2018 and I get that pop up message. If you put in 1 and just dismiss the message you get whole number rounding still, the message is pointless as far as I can tell.
Correction, put in 0 for the Denominator value and you get integer rounding.
