I am trying to get a twist claw in 2" fittings. I found this file off GrabCAD, but it is not the right size. Is there a good way to scale entities to meet a standard 2" MPT? What would be the best course of action? If anyone has a fitting already complete and is willing to share it, I would be thankful. Thank you all!
Scaling parts are not the strong points in 3D modeling, can be done, but if you need to edit, it's not that easy, if you have a simple part, model your own, if it's not too complicated etc and set it up that you can very easily add more configurations...
Yikes, I don't have a 2" twist claw available to me at work, so I was hoping to scale a smaller one. They are fairly complicated parts, so I don't know if I could guess one. I do have access to smaller twist claws, but I would still need to scale it.
I would say scaling would be fine since you won't need drawings to produce it. As long as you don't need to edit it in the future as John said. If you just need it for an assembly I would save it as a part, scale it then save it as a new name. Could save it in your toolbox and drag and drop it into any assembly you need it in.
If I save it as a part, figure out the scaling factor, and re-save it, the part should be good to go?
Yes, You may not get it to the exact size but assuming this is for an assembly and more for visual representation you should be fine. I have done this a few times you just can't edit it but its a copy so it wont matter since you can always edit the original.
If the parts are mated in the assembly, they will possibly be helter skelter, because it scales from the point of origin drawn, so there are frequent times that it is faster to redraw then mess with all the different aspects of things going wrong, plus be aware when you scale a part and then try to design something in context of the scaled part, you could have a huge mess in the feature tree. If the part sucks in any way re-model is what I would recommend, but it's your project and your choice
Do you need it to block out an area, need the part/assembly to design something off of it (in context) or a Visual?
This instance will be for visual representation. I think saving the assembly as a part and scaling it will be okay as long as the claw proportions don't go crazy.
You can't scale assemblies - just individual parts, then you'll see a little what I'm talking about..
Here is the final model. My customer wants to see a 4" SCH 40 pipe, capped at one end, with 2 of these 2" twist claw couplers threaded into it (think of a header). Could I just use this one which is close to 3/4" and 3/4" pipe and override the measurements in the final drawing? Any idea on how odd it would look?
Have you looked a McMaster Carr for these . They have solid works drawings.
They were my first stop. They sell these parts, but don't provide drawings.

I feel really dumb now... I opened the file like you did but went off of the "body" Sketch not the "support-" sketches. The body sketch would let me change anything. Thank you very much!

Mc-Master models are really good and easy to change if you have the correct info to change the dimensions to.
Agreed. McMaster is a wonderful resource for drawings. They don't have models for the twist claw parts they sell though.
