what is the easiest way to drawing a wire coil that looks like a spring. I am trying to make a heater coil .5 dia coil. with .1 wire and 1 inch high.
Helix - Search for Helix or Spring here on the forum
There is a much easier way in this instance, utilizing the sweep feature and a couple sketches.
this technique is also great for in-context mates to show spring travel or displacement
That is a pretty cool technique. Although that won't work in SW 2015 (I just tried LOL)
I have been using this technique since 2014 so I am surprised, I only have 2016 and 2017 installed at the moment so cannot test this but what issue are you seeing?
EDIT : This was actually a post from 2015 showing this technique http://www.javelin-tech.com/blog/2015/10/animate-spring-motion-with-solidworks/#.WLb8NH8Xlnk
I am SW 2015 SP 5. At 1:04 into the video he selects "Profile Twist" under options.
This is what I see:
OK, I figured it out....apparently my menu is slightly different (not sure why).
But, in order to get the same result, I had to select "Twist Along Path With Normal Constant" OR "Twist Along Path" works too.
Edit 2: Previously, I simply stopped when I saw that "Profile Twist" wasn't an option and thought it was a 2016 thing.
Thanks Scott Ellery!
