Revising Gauge Tables ("Link To External" Gauge Table)

If a gauge table has already been applied to a part, is there a way to update the selections within the part to match any revisions that have been done to the original table on a local drive or network?

From what I can tell it appears that once a gauge table is applied to a part, the link to the original gauge table file is broken and a copy of the table is somehow saved internally to the part (If someone knows how/where this is getting saved, I'd love to understand this better).

What I'm interested in would be similar to the "Link to External File" option on a design table. The only way I have found to get the selections to update is to apply a different gauge table, and then reapply the original gauge table which is pretty inconvenient and there's no signal that the table has been updated to tell a user they would need to do this.

Edit: I'm using 2015 SP5
