So Im trying to import this bearing in its 3d state but im unsure what file type i should use so i can open it in 2015.
I usually go with STEP File AP214 when importing to SW.
Thanks alot. Saved me lots of time.
In order of importance/best way to import (in my opinion):
1) Native Solidworks data (same year or older release as yours)
2) Parasolid File (.X_T)
3) Step File (.STP or .STEP)
3a) Generally, AP203 is a "general" STEP format.
AP203 defines the geometry, topology, and configuration management data of solid models for mechanical parts and assemblies. This file type does not manage Colors and Layers.
AP214 has everything a AP203 file includes, but adds colors, layers, geometric dimensioning and tolerance, and design intent. AP214 is considered an extension of AP203.
4) IGS file (.IGS or .IGES)
5) anything else.
Similar to Dan's recommendation with: SolidWorks native first choice, Parasolids second. I would then choose ACIS (*.sat) over versions of STEP. IGES files are a last resort.
