Every time I try to insert a part into an assembly, the filter is set to .ipt Autodesk parts. I have to click on all files. How do I change the default back to .sldprt files. I have 2017 SP2.0.
I just figured it out - sort of. Open a new assembly, and when the insert part dialog comes up change the file type to "SOLIDWORKS files", then add a part to the assembly. Delete the newly added part and save the assembly as an assembly template. The next time you start an assembly it will be set to "SOLIDWORKS files". This does not work with the "All files" option.
you should be able to select SLDPRt or SLDASM in the windows browser window??
you have to associate the files in Window.
in Windows 10, open Windows explorer, right click a SW file and do as shown for all file extensions.
This is what I'm getting EVERY time to I try to insert a part into an assembly. Then I have to hit the quick filter button for .sldprt EVERY time. How do I get it to default back to .sldprt files?
I've never run into that problem, but try this. Open a new Part and go to the "Insert Part" command. Change that to .sldprt and make your selection. Now delete that inserted Part and save the file as a Part Template. Start a new Part with this new template and see if it's fixed.
My recent installation is doing the same thing. I have 2017 SP2 and every time I use the insert part button it defaults to the "Inventor Part (*.ipt)" file format. I tried making a new assembly, adding a part after changing that option but even subsequent parts added default to this setting. It is not like the setting is modal, it is pragmatically bringing up this selection. Very annoying! I need to find a solution to this before we upgrade all 32 people in my office or I am going to have a mutiny on my hands... :o (
Well, after a little further review Aaron fix only solved the problem on my one computer. After checking with other people in my dept. who are using the same template on our network, they are still having the same issue. Apparently the setting must not be in the template file, but stored locally on the computer. I would like to know exactly where this setting is so that everyone in our dept. doesn't have to go through the same thing.
Go into System Options, Import, change File Format from General to Inventor/... then uncheck the button for Enable 3D Interconnect (Disabled). I found this as I WANTED to filter to .IPT and insert Inventor files but they weren't listed until I checked the box for Enable 3D Interconnect (Enabled)
This is the right way to handle it. Thanks Michael!
