I was thinking that when making a weldment that Solidworks automatically had an "As Welded" configuration? Then after creating cuts, an "As machined" config showed up. Right now I am only seeing the "As Machined". Other than manually typing the "as welded" how can I get that configuration to show up? Thank you
Here is what it looks like:
Check the create derived configurations box, and make sure to change it in your template for your parts as well.
If you don't update your part template you will have to check the box every time you start a weldment part.

Click the arrow right next to as machined and it will give you the derived configuration of as welded.
The typical flow is to design as machined and suppress or edit features to have an as welded state.
If you are looking for different options the best is to create your own and save a part template out with all of the configurations set the way you want them.
Do you know if there is a way to show the as welded config. as a sub component of the "as machined" config in the BOM?
I have never seen it used that way.
Is it possible, yes I think you could. I don't think it would be as simple as 1 click and you were done though.
This would also depend on your Bom structure and company policy about documentation.
Thank you, I will look into it further. Typically our bill of material would have a machined part called out as item "A", then the welded part would be item "1". We may request that the welded part me made at one vendor, then that part be machined at another vendor. Hence different item numbers would be needed. I do like the detail structure of solidworks with 1, 1.1, 1.2, etc. however.
