Toolbox configuration names missing

Hi,

I recently messed around with my toolbox, and finally deleted the whole toolbox to let SolidWorks recreate it. Afterwards I created a new standard so I had this to mess around with instead of the original ISO, DIN etc standards of the Toolbox.

Nevertheless, everything should be back to normal now.

Only problem is, when I open an old drawing all the toolbox configuration names are missing, is there an easy way to fix this ?

Or do I have to remove and re-add all the toolbox parts in the asesmbly to refresh the BOM ?

Correct Answer

Just to follow up on this issue I had, here is what I did.

I figured out the problem had to be the Toolbox since it was shown correctly on another computer.

I tried to do a repair on my SW installation, but it didn't solve anything. I deleted my Toolbox folder on my machine, to let the installation wizard do a clean setup, just to realize the wizard didn't recreate the Toolbox with all of its components.

I then did a complete uninstall of SW and reinstalled it again, this was the only way I could do a complete reset of the Toolbox.

... And this worked.

All the text has changed from "ISO 4762 M6 x 20 -20N" to "Socket Head Cap Screw" which is quite useless.

Not sure if you can recreate the Toolbox without reloading SW.....

Have you created a new BoM template that you are using?

  I am still using the same BoM template.
  This occured after I reinstalled the Toolbox, so it must have been caused by this - even though the Toolbox is identical to the old one.
  Only parts from the old Toolbox seems to be affected - their names are now missing.
  Parts from the new Toolbox used in recently created files are not affected, and will be shown correct.

    However, I think the toolbox was not necessarily updated as expected but there may have been an additional TB created. The only logical thing I can think of.

      Hi Scott,
      
      The problem is within the Toolbox, no doubt.
      I just opened some of the hardware, and within this one I just figured out that the configurations that don't have extensions will be shown correctly in the BoM. It is also those parts that recently have been created.
      
      Furthermore, if you choose Properties for one of the configurations, you get the option to decide the text to be shown in a BoM.
      This option seems to have changed when I deleted the Toolbox, even though the part still has all the configurations.
      
      I tried to open some of the drawings from another computer, and they were shown correctly.
      I will try to reset the Toolbox and then try again.

        In your resetting of TB you might be well served to do that by running a repair of your installation of SWX. A PITA, for sure, but it can fix a lot of things that are otherwise easily overlooked.

Before you reset make sure you have correct option selected in toolbox configuration.

  I checked this before I uninstalled, I had the same setup as in your attached picture.
  
  If you open one of the parts from the toolbox and right click on one of it's configurations and choose properties:
  
  .. you will then see a Bill of Materials Option" tab.
  
  This will standard be set at "User Specified Name" and SolidWorks will autofill this field with the configuration name according to the setup in your Toolbox wizard.
  
  I am guessing that something went wrong with this option because I messed around with the Toolbox earlier.
  
  As you can see in this picture some of the configuration names suddenly had an extra name: "socket head cap screw" - and this was the text that would show up in my BoM.

  That is good for you.
  But the screen shot I shares may not work for you because we are using custom part number.
  I don't know if you are aware of configuration of toolbox.
  I never touch the file as you are showing me on your screenshot.
  I change all the properties in toolbox configuration window.
  Look at the screenshot. again this is just for your reference you may want to come up with the setting which works best for you.
