I want to set up a drawing template with view labels so they automatically say "FRONT, TOP, RIGHT ELEVATION" etc. Is there a way to do that without having to re-name views in drawing tree?
you can open one of your dwg. Add view names such as "Front"l , "Top" and save it as a template
next time, when you create a new dwg, you can "replace model" from the template with the current one
I believe that you can RMB on the view and select Add View Label. If you do this in your template your all set.
Chad wants to add some custom label such as "RIGHT ELEVATION"
I have some Notes that I use often saved as "Styles" in my drawing template. That works well for me.
Glenn, I just noticed that they changed that, from Favorites to Style.
can you not add view labels automatically???
I do something similar, with annotations saved in the design library. I set up a couple notes like this, but hadn't thought of using for view labels. Thanks.
However, I would like to try to make it automatic, so that drawings are consistent no matter who drew them.
Enjoy SWW (I assume you're going?). I live in Australia, so can't make it.....

Not this time, it's not in my budget. Maybe next year.
Labels should correspond to views (obviously). For section views, details, etc, you can set the options to control labels effectively, and section/detail views are labelled automatically. For projected views, the view label says "drawing view 1" or whatever that view is named as in the drawing tree.
What I'm after is a way to make it say "FRONT, TOP, RIGHT" etc. without having to re-name view, or edit notes. I work in a high volume, low complexity type of job, where we have to crank out a lot of models and drawings (mostly sheet metal and weldments), so a little thing like that can end up saving a lot of time. I also want to standardise, so all of us CAD guys in the department make drawings that are the same style and are labelled consistently.
Our company is in the process of implementing solidworks, and I need to make sure that the drawings we are making using SWx are better for the guys on the floor, and that new-style drawings have all the relevant info in a consistent way.
Glenn's idea is good, but I want to make it automatic if possible.
Did you ever find out a way to automate this? I've been curious as well. It's kind of ridiculous that considering standard views are built in to the model that you can't just enable the Font/Left/Right, etc. labels.
Digging this one up again. Anyone found a solution to do this?
Have you looked at using pre-defined views and renaming them in your template?
That falls down when using a template.
The only thing you can save in the sheet are the views and the info on the page layout.
It would work if you was to re-label the views, use these in the views and 'recycle' the sheet, by saving as and replace the current model when opening the new drawing file??
