I have users that have been able to double-click the file in older versions of SolidWorks - such as 2015. After upgrading to 2016 and now 2017, they are unable to do this. Typically it is easier for them to double-click the file then go through the Menu Open option. I know it is only an extra click or so, but that is what end-users complain about. This is for .step and x_t extensions.
Set the file associations of STEP, Parasolid files to open with SOLIDWORKS (right click on file, select properties and set/check for open with).

That does not resolve the issue: the problem is not with the file association not being established, but with a (new since SW2016) inability of the launcher to open these files. When you try to do so (even after establishing the file association), a swShellFileLauncher error message is generated "An error was encountered while trying to open your file. Contact Technical Support for a possible solution."

And for those who don't see it as a problem because the files can be opened from within Solidworks using "File/Open", two things:
1) This does not simply add a few mouseclicks, as some have suggested. The user first has to navigate to the location where the file is saved. If opening a STEP file sent as an attachment to an email (as CNC shops are doing all the time) this is a major pain: instead of simply double clicking the attachment, they first have to save the file somewhere, then open Solidworks and navigate to that place.
2) Recently this capability has also become affected, and parts saved from STEP assemblies are unable to be opened this way (the error message is as above)
You would have to set the file association of Parasolid with SOLIDWORKS launcher and then can try opening it. But why you need that and why can not you simple use the File Open option OR simply drag drop parasolid onto SW session?
