This setting lies under Administration tool/File types/File type settings, but i cannot understand its scope since user has to paste as reference a file manually each time. How do you make use of it ?
Per the help button (it's actually quite useful at times). I've never done anything with this option but it looks like you can define referencing of file extensions. I don't know how it does it automatically and would assume Paste as Reference as you mentioned. S-051862 talks about this as well.
Look at a SolidWorks Part - SLDDRW is listed.
The idea of sub-parent is important but complicated. The classic example is a slddrw is a sub-parent of a sldprt, which means for most purposes the drawing contains the part, so if you get latest on part it doesn't pull the drawing, but if you get latest on drawing it DOES pull the part. But other times it treats the drawing as a child, like if you transition the part it'll carry the drawing with it as a child. These show up in reference dialogs in blue and above but indented from the child.
The reason i asked is because it works for SW files but If for example i set drawing node for .stp files to be .pdfs it doesnt establish a reference between these two so manually i have to copy paste as reference the files and i really cannot see smth useful in this.
Gotcha, nothing will automatically generate the link between the 2, this setting just means if you paste the .stp file as a reference of the .pdf and then you transition either the other will show up in the dialog to get carried along.
