Why does Solidworks force me to Save All?

I often have a part, assembly, sub assembly, and drawing open at the same time.  If I make changes to the part only and save, I can’t just save the part only.  SW forces me to not only save all open files, but also forces me to save all other file referenced in the assembly.  The dialog box that pops up does not allow me to uncheck the open files and prevent them from being saved.  I’m currently using SW2017 SP1 but I believe this behavior started in SW2016 and was not an issue in any previous version as I recall.

Occasionally, I do want to save all open files but I never want to save closed (referenced) and unchanged files under any circumstances.  How do I prevent Solidworks from Saving All when I don’t want to?
