If I try to add a mate, it says the components are already fully defined.
Can someone please help me understand this apparent contradiction?

There are 2 parts in this assembly - a box, and a connector.
The connector is mated with:
- a coincident mate (rear face of connector with front face of box) (y-translation, x- and z-rotation locked)
- a parallel mate (top of connector parallel with top of box) (z-translation and y-rotation locked)
- a concentric mate (a single mounting hole on each is mated concentric) (x-translation locked)
Fully constrained via these three mates.
Right click on connector, copy with mates - "components are under-defined"
Try to add any mate at all - "components are fully defined"
Caleb,
The part you are trying to "copy with mates" should have existing mates already available.
If it is a fixed part or without mates, either remove that condition, add new mates to that part, then try copy with mates
Hope this helps
