how can i do search for all part files in a given dir that do NOT have an associated drawing file? im looking for orphaned and junk files
Are you looking out in windows folder OR inside a vault?
in a vault
This might be a helpful tool for you... GoDataAnalysis - GoEngineer
Not as straightforward as you'd like I'm afraid. Are your drawing file names the same as your parts?
Poor man's method. Do a complete search for files in the folder using a *.sld?r? Click the Name header to sort by file name. It's pretty easy to scan the list and find part files that don't have a drawing with the same name.
Take a look at this thread. I knew I had seen this before. https://forum.solidworks.com/message/444028#comment-444028
See Jacob Picolet's response from Aug 8, 2014 11:38 AM for the latest macro to download.
Hope this helps
Believe in the Q!
Thanks for the reply, looks like it may be a good macro to have, however I am looking for a way to search a folder in a vault for part files that do not have a drawing. our folders contain files that may or may not be used in an assembly.
I think (not sure though) but you should be able to get some script or task for the EPDM that should get you the details. Please check your VAR if they can help you with that.
Hello Al, we are doing this:
When user creates drawing in PDM and save it, dispatch script writes variable (check box on datacard) to part. In windows explorer we have column with this variable and you can simply sort by this variable. Here is dialog box with variable, and datacard with check box (the box is checked by dispatch script automatically, but user can check or uncheck it by hand too).
This can be done for existing parts too with same dispatch script.Hope this hepls.
