Hello everyone, i have an assignment to do, i have a firefighting system in my company which i need to 3D model and then to find the suitable locations to put supports for minimizing vibrations,My background is not so big, i am a rotating equipment engineer, but this is a task i was given and i have to do it one way or another, the piping is already built, i have all the 2D drawings including all dimensions, material, schedule, etc..
The problem was that when they started the pumps, the pipes had too much vibration exceeding their design limits, therefore our boss decided the supports were not designed correctly and had to be modified and their locations changed, i know it's not an easy thing to do, i just want to know where to start from, and whether this can be done in solidworks alone or do i need to use other simulation software?
Well, you might want to find out what the natural frequencies of the supported system are compare that to the rotational or exicitation frequencies of the pump and see what that tells you. A good cheap book on vibrations is Mechanical Vibrations by Den Hartog. Doesn't have any FEA guidance but a good book on basic vibrations.
