2d draft and 3d features

I'm attempting to create a tool in 3d space and create a 2d drawing so it can be machined.  The issue is that only one is required in the main assembly at a time but when we make new tools we want to make four at a time out of the same block of steel.  I created the original model in 3d then patterned it over so I can show four in the 2d space.  I hide that feature in the model space so the assembly doesn't become confusing.  If I go and turn on that feature in the 2d drawing, it automatically turns on that feature in the 3d space??  I don't want to create a separate file for the gang block because if there's a revision change in the future there's a chance that only one gets updated then we have a problem.  Any help would be very much appreciated.  Thanks...
