    analysis of a ice pressure

    Ori Warshavski

We are building a water tank in roll shape. within a certain radius, at a certain height. Our plan is to freeze the water to minus 4 degrees. How to do an analysis of the swelling effort from ice?

If you know the volumetric increase of the ice you could assume a displacement boundary condition on the affected surface.  Otherwise you'd have to deduce the pressures produced.

Caveat emptor - unknowns: friction between ice and surface; ice in a container 'crowns' in the center usually; etc., etc.
