Hi,
I have this problem where turned off surfaces, that are not visible in the model, get in the way of my work. They are selectable and I can hide it but after awhile they appear again; as invisible but when I try to do something that is behind them they are preventing me from selecting. There used to be one only in the model and although annoying it was so bad. Now I have a lot of those invisible surfaces and it is becoming very painful to work. Does anyone know why this is happening and if there is anything I can do to have the hidden surfaces be hidden for real?
Thank you,
ai
Hi Glenn,
I have the same settings but it is still doing it.
thx,
ai
Then I'll take Paul's word for it that there's a bug. I rarely work with Surfaces so I guess I haven't had the pleasure of running into that one. When it happens, can you right-click and choose "Select Other" to get the desired selection?
Yes, you can do all of that - it behaves the same as the surface is visible; you can selected, hide it select others. The thing is that after hiding it, it appears again as selectable and invisible and you have to keep on hiding it. It is very annoying.
I think maybe you misunderstood. I meant that when you need to select a surface beneath the "hidden" surface, if you'll right-click at the correct location and choose the "Select Other" icon...
...then you'll get a list of all available selections to choose from. The various items will be highlighted in the graphics area as you hover your cursor over them in the dialog box so you'll know which to choose.
I know this won't fix your issue, but it may help you deal with it.
Yes, this functionality works and it is a good idea.
This has been going on for years... it's just poor programming.
The workaround I have found,.. you have to hide and unhide and hide.
...so productive and so much fun.
Thanks,
That's what I have been doing but I wondered if there is a permanent solution.
"as invisible but when I try to do something that is behind them they are preventing me from selecting"
Can you specify when it happens as I want to experience it?
Hi Christian,
If you view the attached image it may become a clearer on what happens. Those hidden surfaces are in a blue outline. The blue outline appears only if you point with the cursor toward them. They get selected as though they are not hidden. It is strange but mostly annoying. So, I can' t work on things that are behind them unless I Right Click the outlined surface and hid it or spin the model around sot that I can avoid the barrier that the surface creates. It behaves in the same was as if the outlined in blue surface is visible (but it is not - just outlined in blue).
I am not sure how you can replicate that. You are lucky because it looks like you haven't experience that.
Not sure if I've been "lucky" or not but it's not in my attention while working with surfaces - it's my habit to hide the surfaces in the "Surface Bodies" and it was not in my way before? well... need to double check???
I'll get more attention in the future if this happens to me
..be very careful Christian.. you maybe entering a area which can lead down a path of no return.....
I have had a similar issue with an imported files... is the 'hidden' surface body from an import or something you generated?
it is from something I generated. Don't remember having that issue with older versions of SW. I haven't updated with the latest 2016 service release.
...it's usually a offset/trim surface which you previously hide or unhide.. and when you rollback it is in a unhidden (visable) status.. but, not visable on your screen.
Did you check if any of these settings are connected and there may be another setting somewhere
I looked over it. I didn't see anything that needed changed.
I was thinking more in the line of changing colors and seeing if it would give a clue to turn off a setting somewhere else. If I were desperate, I would do a Copy Settings Wizard and change all my colors to one color and see if it changes, if still nothing happens then just reload your Wizard Settings that you just saved...
