i have a radius .551" but whenever i try to edit the dimension it changes to .5625" or 9/16" as soon as i click on it. Does anybody know how to stop this. When i set a dimension i need it to stay at that exact measurement unless i change it myself.
Go here, click on the button shown, and de-select "Round to Nearest Fraction".
Hi Shane, might be this
under Units>Document Properties
Mine is actually set up the exact same way yours is. It just started this after i clean installed 2017 sp01 yesterday
Yeah, it's handy until it isn't.
Another easy way to find the Unit system settings:
Did you backup your settings with Settings Wizard before the upgrade so that you can reapply them? If not, you likely lost any custom file locations, shared resources, file template defaults, and lots more. If you're operating truly standalone without any other installations in your environment, this may be less impactful if you also operate mostly with default settings. I always advise backing up settings with the Wizard before clean installs, as you are left with pure defaults otherwise.
Also, backup key files / folders as new items sometimes overwrite these.
Basically, any files you have modified.
Also since this is in document properties you will want to update your .PRTDOT & .ASMDOT files otherwise this correction will only be applied to the current document.
After doing something like that I just update my Copy Setting Wizard.
Copy Settings Wizard only works for
1. System Options
2. Mouse Gestures
4. Toolbar Layout
In the options System Options can be saved with copy settings wizard but the document properties are tied directly to the file in question. So if you want all your new files having the units set up to round in the same manner you'd need to adjust the template files the .PRTDOT & .ASMDOT. Now as far as how SolidWorks locates these templates is dictated by the System Options and your File Locations which can be copied via copy settings wizard, but this wouldn't change the settings inside the template files.
I actually had my VAR do it all for me and she assumed that i saved my own settings before getting with her which was not the case. So, when i was resetting my template settings, rather than a 3 place decimal, i accidentally set my part file to use fractions and to round, which i typically only use in low precision drawings.
Now, while it is fresh in your mind, would be a good time to save your settings - if you already haven't.
I save my settings every time I make a change I like and I save the files in a different directory (dated) so that if I didn't realize that my change messed up something else I can go back to an earlier setting.
