By "Project File" - what do you mean? Assembly file, Part File, Assembly or part drawing. or the application (SolidWorks) itself?
Was it working OK and then quit working?
We need much more information - telling us it's broke doesn't tell much.
We need details - What you have, what you were doing, what went wrong when it stopped
What version of Windows are you using?
Have you closed the application and restarted it?
Have you re-booted your computer?
What kind of computer are you using (desktop, laptop...)
The video card might not be compatible or may have a old driver.
Check on the Solidworks web site and see if your video driver is compatible and up to date.
If version 10, then close the application, go to the "SolidWorks.exe" file and right click on it.
click on Properties, then click on the "Compatibility" tab.
Select Windows 7.
See if that fixes it.
This is a part file. it was working fine and i got this message when I was loading an assembly that included it. all the other parts loaded and I can open them except for this 1 file.
I'm using windows 10 on a laptop. I've restarted everyting including the computer. I tried the windows 7 thing and i still get the same error. - "an error occurred while trying to open your file... contact technical support".
I couldnt find the video driver compatible thing but am still searching.
thanks for helping.
here is all the information together
I'm running Windows 10 on a Toshiba Laptop with an Intel i7 cpu and 16GB ram and a NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX video card (not listed on Solidworks website).
I created the part file that's not working about 4 weeks ago and was building the assembly around it with other parts. The error occurred "an error occurred while trying to open your file... contact technical support" when i tried to load the assembly to keep working on it. I closed everything and tried to open the part by itself and got the same error. I've restarted the computer several times. all the other parts open fine but this 1 file is the biggest 6MB - chassis that all the other stuff attaches to.
I have tried to windows 7 compatibility change to the solidworks.exe file and it didn't work.
Thanks for helping
Can you try opening on different machine? Also did you used/saved that files on any other version or system that has higher version than yours?
Can you try and attach that (part) single file here?
Sounds like a circular rebuild issue with a missing link, where the part was built in context of the assembly and had sketch relations to other parts and the later one of the parts that it was related to was deleted or moved..
