Does anyone else have issues copying and pasting custom properties in SW 2017 SP1? Trying to copy custom properties to multiple parts. This used to work great in 2016, but for some reason no luck in 2017.
I checked and got the same thing. In 2017 if I copy and paste the property It doesn't work. In 2016 it does work. Also if I copy from 2016 and paste to 2017 it works.
I'd question why you need to do this in the first place. (Wouldn't it be better to use Custom Property Tab Editor/ SWX Task Scheduler/ #TASK?)
In any case you should raise it with your VAR and get it reported to SWX.
Glad I'm not the only one seeing this. I figured out I could copy and paste if I pasted it into Notepad first. Still reporting it to our VAR.
I use the property tab editor, but if I have the same information across multiple drawings I like to be ale to copy the info from one drawing to the next within SWX. I suppose it could be just as easy with the task scheduler, but I shouldn't have to use it to do something simple like copy text.
I just went from 15 to 17 sp1. Had I known this was an issue I would have waited for sure, until it was fixed. After hand entering several details worth of properties I tried to copy a longer more complicated property from one part to a word doc, then from the word doc to a different part file....IT WORKED! After using the one word doc prop, I added a few more just to have the major ones available to c-n-p. Then it hit me, lets try the entire list from a part, paste it into EXCEL, then from EXCEL to a different part and...........IT WORKED TOO!!!! So I now have a workaround that allows me to pull from one part file and paste into another part file by way of EXCEL. Not terrible and definitely not hand entry. Come on SP2!!! :-)
Jon, you shouldn't have posted the workaround.
Now Dassault won't bother to fix this since there is a workaround.
I found that you could do the same with notepad. Copy and paste all the custom props from SW to notepad at once, then paste anywhere that you would like.
Just curious, have you tried setting up your sldprt, asm, drw, templates to have some default custom properties?
The main thing I use this for is to copy properties between drawings. At my company they like to keep drawings separate (I don't often use drawing sheets). A lot of the information is the same for orders: customer info, location, order #, etc. The copy and paste function was a quick way to get all the custom properties in there without having to use the task scheduler or having to manually enter the same info for each drawing that was part of a specific order.
Then you need a macro for this
Check out Keith Rice site, there is one macro "Copy part or assembly custom properties to drawing custom properties"
At least on my computer (SW2017 SP1.0). If I copy the properties then close the Summary Information dialog, I cannot paste what I copied into notepad. However if I leave the dialog open I can paste the values. This leads me to believe that SW is clearing the clipboard when closing the dialog.
I have tried a portable app called ditto which allows me not to lose the data and I can paste it into multiple SW documents
This has been fixed in SP 2.0. I just confirmed it on the EV2.0
