May I ask what r u going to use this spring for? this extension spring will have about 38930 turns for the length of 175272. It'd take forever to generate this spring in SW
Some countries use the comma instead of a decimal point.
Thank you, Jim
I see - I'm writing a tool (addin for SW) for extension spring design and want to know the size of spring people using
I'm assuming that dimension is 175.272 which would work out to roughly 11.5 turns.
From the image, the hooks are 90° apart so number of turns should end up .25 or .75 while 11.5 number of turns should have hooks in 180° apart - see below image
Thats why I don't like to use free length as a design parameters as the number of turns can be a strange number (it's ok to model it but not a good practice making it)
I did say "about" 11.5 & it was a lot closer than your 38,930 turns
That tool looks pretty cool Christian, nice job.
I do some tests now (make sure no crash for some weird input) and will share with the group soon
And here is a clip to show how it works
Great job Christian,
Looks like it will be a very handy tool, I look forward to trying it out.
Will it only do the one type of spring or will there be a selection? Or a different tool for other spring types?
Keep up the great work.
There will be tools for extension, torsion and compression springs
I'll release the tool for extension spring first as the other two will be later
I had also started a similar project long back for creating spring models for SOLIDWORKS but that project was out on hold and I never got the need to restart that. Glad to know that you're doing that and thanks for sharing.
Looking forward to it!!
I'll try to release some time next week - Stay tune
Thats awesome! I was literally doing a project last week with tension springs! this would be an incredibly helpful tool!
From the "Help" menu -> SOLIDWORKS Tutorials -
This will show you most of the principles that you will use to create your spring.
Upload your file if you have questions.
Try watching this & following it through. If you run into problems, post your attempt & someone will help with your specific issue.
Animating a Spring | MySolidWorks Training may be of some help, too.
I just released the tool for extension spring design
Download and try it !!!
Got it! Excellent Job!
