Anyone had any problems installing the software for this SP?
I did the big download, but now it's asking me for the 2008 DVD. I
was told that was odd by the install guy, he had to specifically
ask for a disk for 2008.
I got asked for the DVD when I installed sp4 a few months
ago. I couldn't find it quickly, so just ignored it. Everything
still installed properly. I don't know if this would work for
everybody, but it did for me. SW office; no other add-ins.
For what it's worth, I downloaded and installed SP 5 yesterday.
It changed my default e-mail client, made it just about impossible
to sign into MS Messenger. For some reason I would immediately get
signed right back out.
It did something to the zoom feature of the middle wheel, it worked
sporadically, and it generally made SWX unstable, doing all kinds
of weird things.
After crashing this morning, I did a System restore and went back
SP 4.
Yeah, I killed my anti-virus before doing the download &
install.
Thanks for the info everyone. My current setup is "usably
stable", so I guess I'll hold off for a little bit on the update.
With Vista 64 and the newer MS Office, there's enough variables in
the mix that falls under "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
I set it downloading the compact version overnight and left
the SP.0 DVD in the drive. Got back in this morning to check and it
was finished downloading and ready to install. I set it going and
it threw up an error saying it couldn't find the installation
files. One message says download completed, the next says download
files not found. Erm..
Ive checked the default download location and even run a
network-wide search to no avail. I guess a full download overnight
will be my next task.
There's definitely something not quite right with this SldIm
version.
I installed it on Wed., and have had no problems so far.
Downloaded a 703MB file from SW, and it did ask for the original
install disk (which I had handy in my desk). Total time was about
45 minutes (download included).
It did reset all my custom settings in the DWG editor (minor
annoyance), but SW appeared unchanged as far as look and feel go.
This is always a nervous task when things are working OK. I've been
having a problem with the graphics (NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700), so I'm
looking for improvements.
Xi Computer, Intel Core Duo (3.16 gHz), Vista 64 bit, 8 GB RAM.
Because of this, years ago I started copying the CDs\DVD to the server first.
SW is then installed by using the server copy.
