We now flatten the harness model, The last button on the electrical
menu is flatten, or RMB on the route assembly ->Flatten Route.
Just take the default options for starters and see what you get.
I'll upload a video tomorrow, the file is too large to upload from
home.
A slight problem, what happens to all of the old drawings I created
using the harnessboard when I need to update the drawing. The
option to choose that has been removed. I preferred the 2d
harnessboard because the dimensions were actual dimensions. I had
an actual 1:1 of the harness. With the flattened route, it isn't at
1:1. And the dimensions aren't actual dimensions, just text.
Yes, maintainence of old drawings will be a problem without the old
harnessing application. However, the application didn't handle
anything other than very simple changes anyway so our view is that
you won't have lost much.
This is an area of continued focus so I believe you will continue
to see improvements in it. Now that we have developed our own
in-house solution the future is very much more in our hands.
What would be very useful is information from anyone and everyone
regarding harness drawing and formboard/nailboared layouts.
Thanks for opening this up for others. As someone who actually did
harnessboard drawings in pencil, yes that was a long time ago, the
biggest factor is making them 1/1. Having the dimensions shown is
nice, but the concept was always to nail the drawing onto a piece
of plywood. Then add someone nails to bend the wires around the
corners as well as hold the connectors. Then the harness was
reproduceable each time.
So if you could do the unfold and do it 1/1 that would be a huge
plus. Then if you still want to add the dimensions, make them
reference dimensions. Since the harness layout is 1/1 and the wires
are cut according to the cut list.
Make a wizard to add coverings and such in their tables. Similar to
the component wizard.

When doing the flatten route, allow the option to choose which
component should be the anchor point and the flatten route flows
from there.
Andy & Kirk,
I have another routing question please: I am using V8.5 and for
the last year at least, I could create CP's on a connector and
route each wire individually, supplying necessary attribute info
for BOM. Two weeks ago, something happened to our system and now
when I begin a route, all CP's for the first connector selected
will add route segments, picked or not picked. Have either of you
any answers for this? Thanks for your time and reply in
advance!
On 2009 SP3, starting a route with a from-to list will add
route segments to every C-Point in the entire assembly - even those
already in other route subassemblies.
This is deffinitely fixed in 2010 where you now have the ability to
fully control which CPoints are added to a route both for piping
and electrical. Indeed, for electrical, if using a fromto list it
automatically just adds the CPoints for the pins that are
connected. Sadly, the change is too major to go into a service
pack.
As we are approaching the Beta release I will soon be able to tell
you about what's new in 2010.
