Please help me with tips or a tutorial to model a formula one car in solidworks! Thanks in advance.
I doubt that you'll find a very detailed one. But if you do please let me know also.
how specific are you going to want it? There are dozens of tutorials on Youtube form building the chassis all the way untill suspension setups.
Edit: I'm talking common cars. They won't tell you the indept details of a real Formula car i guess hahaha
There are plenty of models to be found, here's just one example McLaren MP4-25 F1 (2010) 3D Model Download - 3D CAD Browser but haven't found a decent realistic in-depth tutorial.
I just need an understanding of how to model it. The tutorials already available are for street cars. And they are modelled using blueprints and tracing them. I'm confused if modelling a formula one car will follow a similar approach or should i use weldements?
You mean this one:
I'd give McLaren a call, maybe they'll give you the specs.
You'll have more chance of winning the lottery I should think Steve! They'd have more secrets than a politician!
Dave, do you attend the Formula One race in Melbourne?
I am an F1 fanatic Steve but have never been. Now that we are travelling we are hoping to see the race at Albert Park (Melbourne) in the new year, fingers crossed.
Here's my spot in Austin for the USGP. Been here every year so far. Great track and I'm 30 minutes away
Yep............. Officially jealous!
A view of the tower here at the track. I'm not sure if it was designed in SW...
That's pretty cool Steve!
Amazing! Who do you support Steve Calvert?
I went to Indian GP. But they put it on hold after just 3 seasons.
I just gave an example. Specifications are available on the internet for some of the constructors
Which constructors are you able to get specifications from Prateek?
sort of this Dave Bear?
Oh okay, I thought you meant really juicy specifications, not just the basic stuff, lol
Well that's impossible I know
But anyways, I just want to learn and then I can improvise on it maybe.
Can you model a BAJA or FSAE chassis Dave Bear?
Probably not Prateek, I've never tried though........
I agree with the others.
I used to work with Indy car designs and models.
May I suggest learning surfacing. Lots of stuff on YouTube.
Prateek,.. as all the above mention,... there are enough videos online which should give good info on taking the orthographic views you show into curve/surface development for the body/shape.
It takes time, patience and practice..
A while back, as a test, I imported a Sketchup file (samsung-nistovan-mercedes) via Rhino3D... and exported as a STEP.. it's not that clean but it's impressive for a facet model.
