In the BOM table name of the parts come under the part number column. How to avoid this and have under Description column?
Most likely it is because you have the Bill of Material Options in the Configuration Properties set to Document Name. If you change it to User Specified Name then you can type in the part number.
If you want to have the part file name to show up in the description column, you will need to create a Description custom property and set the property value to $PRP:"SW-File Name"
It is reading from the part properties, you need to edit them there, you can open each part by RMB in the bom
What the others said. Or just change the name of that column to Description and delete the Description column.
I am unable to believe that name of parts come under the part number column is a default in SW.
You may be unable to believe it, but it's true. If you don't like it, set up a BOM the way you want, then save the template and use it in the future.
I believe you don't have part numbers.....so just change the title of the column like Glenn said.
I do not have part number but I must familiar with industrial standards.
This is what SW puts into the BOM
All the BOMs I have worked with for 20+ years have a part number and a description. Now you can leave your description as your part number until you rename them for final use....or you can do what you want with the pic you posted, but that opens a whole can of worms if you ever have to collaborate with other people using SW.

As has been said already, SolidWorks expects the file name to be the part number. It would be helpful if that convention were made clear to new users.
