Im experimenting with split/save bodies. My goal is to have the individual boss-extrude features become separate parts. Is there a way to do this without keeping the link between the original part1main.sldprt and all the new saved parts having a Split/Save Body feature? I want no link between them after splitting them into separate files. Is there an option to break the link?
We are a furniture company and trying to simplify the customer drawings from solidworks - so we would like a .sldprt file to give the customer a quick 3d model of what their piece will look like. After the customer approves the design, we then need to create a manufacturing .sldasm that has all the parts as separate part numbers, drilling, milling, part sizes, materials, part info, etc - which will only work as a .sldasm file and the parts mated together to re-create the original design. So I want to break out all the features from the original .sldprt into parts that can be given separate info easily.
Well then why don't you use multi bodies part. Easy to modify/update and no assembly required.

That wouldnt give us as much information as an assembly with individual sldprt files would it?
We need info for each sldprt / body to give us:
1. overall length with and height
2. all drilling/milling geometry for CNC programming
3. custom properties
4. material
Use cutlist and you would get these details easily.
For repeated sections, you can make profiles (keep them in library) and then using weldment you can easily model your part. You can assign different materials to different bodies in same part.
Just give it a shot and I'm sure you would be more than happy.
Is there a list somewhere of all the "@@@" formula commands that a cut list can understand? I want the name of the cut list item be a custom property like "PartNumber".
Sorry but do you want to rename the cut list folder or add properties inside the cut list.
The best solution would be for the name of the feature like "Boss-Extrude1" = PartNumber in the weldment custom properties. I can rename Boss-Extrude1 to 12345 and have it show up as the part number automatically in weldment cut list. Is there a list somewhere for all the @@@ formulas Solidworks understands?
Using split/save bodies, the simple answer is NO.
Why you want them individual parts? Why can not you make them separate files in the first place? And can you use configurations?
