We are currently doing our 3d modelling and build drawings in Solid works. After we have created each part to be built we do an assembly and mate all the relevant parts together so that they move how we want.

We are using a program called "Unity" to animate the assembly. Unity's preferred file format is .OBJ. We can export each individual part from SW as STL's and convert them to OBJ using mesh lab.

We can also export the whole assembly and convert to OBJ but when we import it into Unity the comes in as a solid object, no moving parts. Unity works on a coordinate object placement system which make it hard to rebuild the assembly within it and lends itself to being inaccurate.

Wondering if they know of a way we could export an assembly with moving parts from solidworks so that it retains the mobility of the assembly?

Any advice would be appreciated
