Can't form a proper simple surface or thicken it

Hi I was wondering if someone can shed some light on this as it's getting tiresome to deal with these sort of errors.

I have this opening on a door panel which I need to fill with a surface and then thicken to form a plastic plate where the door handle

will be. Everything has failed so far, this is what I have tried.

-Lofted Surface using existing geometry (hole edges) FAILED.

-Boundary Surface using existing geometry (hole edges) THICKEN FAILS.

-Lofted Surface using a new 3D sketch made with fit splines FAILED.

-Boundary Surface using a new 3D sketch made with fit splines FAILED.

-Same as above made with a new 3D sketch with convert entities. FAILED.

-Filled Surface based on the fit spline sketch. WORKS but has an error, lump on it. This is not my first choice to work with.

Can anyone please tell me why the lofts and boundaries are failing? When I check the operation for the boundary surface it says it has an open surface and points

to the upper left corner but everything is coincident.

Any help in understanding this is very welcome!

Thanks,
