What features on the student version make it unsuitable for commercial use? I am a student right now with the opportunity to do some contract work and want to know if I can get away with just buying the student version.
Student/Edu version is a full features package which is much cheaper than the commercial version and only meant to be used by universities and schools for educational purposes. You are not allowed to do anything for commercial purpose with this version.
To further what Artem said, any drawings derived from anything you create will be watermarked as coming from the student edition. No, it is not a removable watermark.
All the files will be watermarked on the student version. It is also in the EULA that you accept when installing the software to not use the student version for commercial work.
Thank you! I wasn't sure if it was more of a legal thing or a missing tools thing. I'll look into getting the full version!
Let me add to the significance of the watermark. Any files created or edited in a student version get this watermark. If a commercial version opens that file the watermark will be there and is NOT removable.
not exactly true about the watermark not being removable.
Apparantly if you have purchased a commercial version of SW, you could try and contact SW and ask if they could process your files to get rid of the watermark - (I've heard they have that option).
Mainly that Dassault can levy legal claims against you if you try and use the student version for commercial purposes. Also the watermark as other members have posted but I think the legal implications are the much more significant thing at play here as even if you found a way to "remove" the watermark wouldn't make it any less illegal.
