Half gear motion

Hello SolidWorks Gurus & users,


I have a unique motion requirement, consider a sun/stationary gear, which is toothless for 180 degree & a planetary gear is revolving around it, so I need a rotation of planetary gear about its own axis only when it comes in contact to the toothed part of sun / stationary gear. I don't believe that making an actual 3D model & applying Contact in Motion Study would work (will be really difficult to have smooth & correct motion) besides that will be a hell of load for processing. Neither the Geneva mechanism would work, as there will be un even angular velocity.


So is it possible to have such a motion where planetary gear revolves complete 360 degree around the sun / stationary gear, but due to teeth only on 180 degree of sun/stationary gear, the planetary gear rotates about its axis only when it comes in contact with the toothed part of the sun / stationary gear ?
