I'm using solidworks 2016 and have had some model files do some weird things (corrupted). And idea on what's going on?
Could you be more specific on what you mean by weird things?
Sorry about that.
When I go to open a certain assy I get a message: "An error was encountered while trying to open your file". It happened with two assy's. And now one of my model files decided to change. It was a model I created and now it's some imported part that I don't recognize. I have solide2016 at work and home and it's acting the same on both machines. I have the models on an external drive.
Shut down SW and open SW RX and start SW from there
Thanks for the quick reply.
But it didn't work.
If Shut Down & Restart - SW RX - won't bring a file back to life - there are issues - call or email a VAR
Okay, thanks for the help.
On another note, I have a stl file of the same part. Is there a way to make the stl part a solid or something I can pic dim's from. I really don't want to have to remodel this part from scratch.
Thanks again for your help.
STL = remodel
Are you working across a network? I've seen this type of behavior with networks that have communication or time out issues. If you have the files open and the communication hiccups SolidWorks can choke on the files. That's usually when my first recommendation is a PDM tool that allows you to work on your local hard drive!!
No, I save my files to an external hardrive. And take that with me between computers.
Very weird. Sounds like a ? to bring to your VAR.
Have you scanned your computers for virus/malware etc?
The common element could be the external hard drive maybe... Have you noticed any problems with files saved to other hard drives (not the external one I mean)
Do you have regularly saved backups? If so does the problem happen with them as well?
