I have a user who complains that his feature manager pane is too narrow. Each time he opens a file created by someone else he has to make the feature manager wider to see the component/feature names. Once he makes the change and saves the file the setting sticks, because I understand that the setting is saved on a per-user basis in each file. However, if he's never saved a given file before, when he opens it the feature manager appears very narrow. It seems this is because there's no setting saved for him in that file, and it's using some default value.

So the question is where is that default value defined? I feel like it must be stored in the registry, but I haven't been able to locate it. One reason I think that is because he says this has been a problem for years and has persisted as we've upgraded from version to version.
