has anyone else ran into this before, if so do you have a fix
Can you create a new file? In a lot of cases such behavior is caused because of video driver. You can try to completely uninstall the driver and install it again (just updating the driver may not help).
If you enable Software OpenGL (Options: System Options: Performance) and are then able to create a new file, the problem would seem to be your video card driver. You can verify this by running Solidworks Rx and clicking on the "Diagnostics" tab.
Check and make sure you're using the certified driver for SolidWorks for your computer manufacturer and video card and not simply the latest one from the nVidia for your chipset.
If you're using Windows 10, you'll need to disable automatic updates to your video card or every second Tuesday of the month, the compatibility driver will be back.
