Is the format a block? If so, right-click, edit or explode block.
They are in blocks--even nested blocks. Bring up the blocks toolbar and explode them. Alternately, yu can drill into the blocks and edit them (also on the blocks toolbar). But if you didn't want blocks, I'd explode them.
