One of my models Instant2D got turned on. I noticed with this turned on that when change something it updates in instant. Which I like. But before I use this I want to understand yet. Is this something good to use? what's it's fall back if any?
Instant2D is designed to dynamically manipulate sketch dimensions in sketch mode. You can click a dimension and quickly edit its values without opening Modify Dimension dialog box for resetting the geometry. I don't quite understand what you mean by fall back, did you mean draw back?
If so the only thing i have experienced with Instant2D as a draw back is that it can be difficult to double click the dimensions to get the modify box to appear, but other than that it is a nice tool to speed up the process
I like it, and keep it turned on. As you've seen, it allows you to single-click on a dimension to change it's value while in an active sketch. Since that's the same workflow I often use to edit feature dimensions without opening the feature (with Instant 3d on, I single-click on a feature in the tree to show it's dimensions, single-click on one in the graphics area, and enter the new value, which instantly updates), it always seemed counter-intuitive to me to need to double-click on them in an active sketch. (In fact, I dislike double-clicking so much I have my Windows Options set to open files by single-clicking.)
The only drawback I'm aware of is that you can't delete a dimension by clicking on the value and hitting the Delete key on your keyboard. Hopefully that will be addressed in the future, but if not, it didn't take me long to learn to select a dimension to delete by clicking on a leader or extension line instead of directly on the value. That still works as before. Or you can still right-click on a dimension and select Delete from the drop-down.
You can turn it on and off and play with it to see if you do like it or not
It's different way of manipulating the dim in sketch with double and single click
Some don't like it because they get used to the old way and feel awkward to the new UI
To me, I like both so I kept changing on/off depend on what I'm doing:Ex. on for quick change/off for adding equation
EDIT: the only thing bothers me (and I think this feature needs to be improved) is when the instan2D is on and sometimes the double click still leads to quick change mode instead of editing mode - has anyone seen this behavior?
Please see the video clip - At the end of the clip, double-click still got me quick change mode
It's has got to be the most LAME and POORLY implemented change/addition to dimension editing I have EVER seen! (btw, t's something PRO/e had for >10 years!!!)
This LAME NEW feature single SLOW click IS SLOWWWWWW!
The dim is DIFFICULT TO READ and SLOWWWWWW.
Clicking on the dim text, with the intent to DELETE (you hit the delete key FAST) the dim (the way it was for YEARS!)... responds SLOWLY with a POP UP stating the value you used needs to be between -1000000 and 1000000.. .No $#@!$#@,.... this is because,... the RESPONSE TIME (compared to the way it was for years!?!?.... IS SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.... so, you have to slowly click... and NOT pick the dim text but the leader or extensions.. SLOWLY... did I say,... SLOWLY... slow enuf?
TOTAL LOSS OF PRODUCTIVITY!
I FEEL LIKE I WENT BACK TO 2nd GRADE with this NEW FAT ICON KID LOOKING GUI!!..
... I feel better now sayn that.
Totally understand ! Some guys here just hated it
I'm glad you got that off your chest and feel better. I haven't found single-clicking with Instant2d to be at all slow, and don't have any trouble reading the dimension. As I said above, I've used the same workflow for years with Instant3d (same simplified dimension box, and same apparent speed).
as you mentioned, one guy here always turns instant3D on and started yelling since instant2D is on by default and has not figured it out how to turn it off
Surprisingly, he ended up to like the feature now soon he got used to it
I understand how to a perform a slow double-click, but how is it possible to perform a slow single-click?
It is SLOW... and I like to go FAST!
Some like think twice before you click !
YEP, I HATE IT!
In all seriousness, when you single-click on a dimension with Instant2d turned on, are you saying SW is slow to respond with the simplified dimension box? Because I'm not seeing that at all.
Wow didn't think I was going to get this kind of response..:) anyways, I've tried it for a little while and going stick with for awhile. In component file it's acting exactly how I want it. It not slow at all and just 1 click. Have notice it doesn't work through assembly.

Glen,.. yes, I am serious... I guess, I was not clear?
"it" is NOT INSTANT, there is a delay.. and this was something I've used in other programs in my past... I KNOW how the others respond.
SW Corp, again, are trying to be or trying to attract something or someone with this copied dim edit,.. that is, it's a obvious lame marketing name to attract 2D users...
,.. most of what I see and and using in 2016 is dumbing down what was a faster tool (it has been been getting slower and slower each release).
As a sole proprietor,.. me/myself/I.. LOSE TIME/MONEY... = it sux.
Thanks for posting the video!.. need I say more,... it's LAME!
...I'll add.. IT IS INCONSISTENT and LAME = WASTE TIME/MONEY... if that helps?
Todd,.. to understand why I'm extremely annoyed... I've been using this program and others are a very long time.. and the behavoir or where you click on the dim, how you click on the dim, the responses and response time or how it responds is inconsistant with how it use to simply work. (it worked just fine before)
This new feature needs to be fixed for not working properly/inconsistely..
So, we, the paying users, have to pay extra and wait for this new feature to be fixed... something in the future.......................?
So much fun.....................
I guess I don't see that right now. If down the line I find that it's a waste of time, I'll defiantly respond back. It does the job. I come from a system that everything was a instant update single click dimension. No choosing rebuild every time you changed a dimension. Right now this does the job in components.
yes,.. for a new user, if you don't know the previous behavior or what it was like,.. you would know.

You weren't unclear, but I just wanted to be sure since I'm not seeing any lag when using the feature, and I don't remember anyone else complaining about it. If you were a less experienced user I'd suggest there might be a problem on your end, but since you've been doing this for so long it must be something else.
IS/WAS: shall be my simple single click response to my something else problem or end...
IS = new "Instant2D" feature behavoir inconsistent and slow.
WAS = more consistent and faster
Curious.. if users do not complain about these new feature(s) issues does that = there is nothing wrong with the new feature(s).... hmm?
OR, is it the sole responsibility of the paying users to complain or to "offer" free advice....... hmm?
geez,.. maybe the MOST IMPORTANT REQUEST IS for SW Corp to FIX PROBLEMS.... that is, with all the things they add/break/fix/change... over and over and over and over... again.... hmm?
Do we all see a pattern here................. hmm?
I feel like I'm missing something here...
If you don't like the new feature, then why don't you just turn it off? Not trying to be rude, I just don't understand the frustration when you don't have to use it.
Similarly, it would seem to me that most of the complaints over the 2016 UI issue was that SW was forcing it on its users. There was no option to revert back to classic colors, and even when they added that option it was very limited in its scope.
Here we have a case where they've done the right thing in my opinion. They added a new feature, but given the user the option of not using it. Again, not trying to be argumentative, just not understanding where you're coming from.
On a side note, I do not experience any lag with Instand2D. It is incredibly quick. Not sure I like it, but no problems either.
..yes,.. John, I have it off.. my point,.. it's not something I care for at all... and there are MUCH MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES.
...going back to the early exposure to this cute feature, I shook my head then and now,.. I kept quiet.. and read all the responses.. some liked it, some did not..... it was not surprising.
The fubar with this feature... it is/was turned on by default and is/was not clearly accessible.. it WAS/IS directed at NEW USERS or CONVERTS who use it in other programs for >10yrs I can not argue, not a bad marketing decision.. again.. not surprise.. MORE WASTED $$$ AND TIME...............................
I don't want to step on you guys foot
Wasted time and $$$ -- seems a little bit exaggerating, don't you think ????
how many mil. second for a mouse click? and how many times you use it for a day (assume to turn it on) - You think it can be up to about 5 minutes of your time/per day?
ok.. put on your thinking caps....."feature development time" (= our subscription $$?)
and yes,... out of the hundreds of thousands of SW users and IT... it WASTED TIME/MONEY.
