Next year I have to design a simple machine (+-200 parts) for my Bsc.Thesis. and I'll have to show it to one of my CAD teachers and I'll also have to be able to make changes or to make simple parts. At home I have a powerful desktop.
Because I won't use the laptop in any other way, it doesn't have to be a real workhorse. It just needs to run Solidworks well.
Will it be able to run it with minimal lag?

Unfortunately the NVS quadro is not on the approved quadro list. That does not mean that it will not work - just that there are more possibilities for it giving problems. Unless you are going to have a lot of strange geometry and are looking to use realview graphics for displaying your model, it may work ok - no guarantees.
