Yesterday I discovered that Solidworks was getting corrupted to due a messed up installation of Mastercam 2017 and the Demo being installed on top of each other.
Once I reinstalled everything correctly it worked fine for about 3 hours then started doing the same thing again. I tried using the safe mode on Solidworks and it resolved the issues that now started happening in both programs. The issues didn't reappear after rebooting the machine.
I did all that about an 1 hours ago so hopefully this setup keeps working. If you have any ideas on what could have been causing this; it would be helpful incase any one else runs into this problem.
I waited the sp3 or sp2 (don't remember exactly) coming out to upgrade to 2016 from 2015
I used the sp0 from the disk and saw the same as you describe here
Then I downloaded and installed the sp3 and problem solved
The best way is to run RX and zip all the files and send to your VAR
I had another user who was reporting the same-ish problem. Solidworks would open but it would crash/hang when a part was created or opened. I accidently clicked on the option to load Solidworks in OpenGL and it ran fine. So I checked the graphics drivers, he was running Nivdia 259.7. I updated them to the most recent update 372.7 and Solidworks worked fine after the reboots, With or without OpenGL enabled.
So if this happens to you I'd recommend checking that your Graphic Drivers are up to date.
